A Practical Schema Markup Guide for AI Visibility
Schema markup is the most under-implemented AI visibility lever available to B2B SaaS companies. It does not require new content. It does not require a redesign. It requires adding a JSON-LD script block to pages that already exist — and it directly improves how AI systems understand and cite your site.
This is the implementation guide. No theory. Just what to add, where to put it, and how to verify it worked.
Why this matters for AI search: AI models cannot afford to guess facts about your business. Schema markup gives them an unambiguous, machine-readable statement of who you are, what you offer, what it costs, and how the process works. Pages with clean schema earn significantly higher AI citation rates than pages without it.
The five schema types that matter most
1. Organization
This is foundational. It establishes your brand as a verifiable entity with a name, URL, contact email, and optionally links to your social profiles. Include the sameAs property pointing to your LinkedIn, Crunchbase, or other authoritative profiles — this creates a trust network that AI models use to confirm your identity.
2. Service (or Product)
Describe each of your core services explicitly. Include name, description, serviceType, audience, and pricing offers. This is how AI models learn what your product actually does — not from paragraph copy, but from structured fields they can extract and compare.
3. Offer
Nested inside Service schema. State the price, currency, and billing interval unambiguously. "From X" pricing is harder to cite than a concrete number. If you have fixed tiers, state each tier as a separate Offer with its own price and description.
4. FAQPage
This is the highest-leverage schema type for AI citation. Structure your existing FAQ content as Question/Answer pairs. AI models are frequently asked specific questions — and FAQPage schema gives them pre-packaged answers they can surface directly. A single well-structured FAQPage can earn citations across dozens of distinct user queries.
5. HowTo
If you describe a process — how your service works, how onboarding happens, how automations are built — mark it up as HowTo with numbered steps. AI systems and Google AI Overviews frequently surface step-by-step answers, and HowTo schema makes your process content the obvious choice.
Implementation: the exact JSON-LD pattern
Place all schema inside <script type="application/ld+json"> blocks in your <head>. You can have multiple script blocks — one per schema type. Keep them separate for readability and easier validation.
The critical rule: schema must match visible page content exactly. If your pricing page states €3,497/mo for Growth, your Offer schema must state the same. Google and AI models cross-reference schema against visible content — discrepancies damage credibility and can result in your structured data being ignored.
Validation: two tools, run both
- Google Rich Results Test (search.google.com/test/rich-results) — confirms your page is eligible for enhanced search features and shows any errors
- Schema Markup Validator (validator.schema.org) — validates against the full schema.org vocabulary, catches issues Google's tool misses
After adding schema, run both tools on every page you modified. Fix any errors before moving on. A single syntax error makes the entire block unreadable to machines.
What to do after implementation
Schema is not a one-time task. As your pricing, services, or process changes, your schema must be updated to match. A stale price or a removed service in live schema is actively harmful — it signals inconsistency to AI systems that cross-reference your content.
Set a quarterly review: open your schema blocks, compare each field against your live page content, and update anything that has drifted.
